The Blankenburgverbinding

The Blankenburgverbinding in the Netherlands is officially open! The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Barry Madlener, marked the opening of this new road infrastructure, immediately followed by the first cars driving through the Maasdeltatunnel.

As part of theBAAK Blankenburgverbindingconsortium, DEME is proud to have played a key role in this large-scale infrastructure project, which improves accessibility to the Rotterdam region. The scope included the design, construction, and 20 years of maintenance of the road infrastructure.

Highlighting the benefits of the synergies within DEME, we brought many aspects of our infrastructure, dredging and offshore expertise together for this complex project, including constructing immersed tunnels. Indeed, one of the biggest challenges was the immersion of the tunnel elements of the 945-metre long Maasdeltatunnel, located in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes in the port of Rotterdam.

We would like to thank our consortium partners, our clientRijkswaterstaat, and especially the incredible teams who worked on this project for six years!
